Got me a wife -- got a divorce
Got me a cat -- got me a horse
Tried a fish, and a wide-eyed turtle
Don't want a mate -- or anything fertile
Just want a friend -- just want a pet
A relationship -- I haven't had yet

Then she came into my world
Not quite a boy, not quite a girl
Just a devoted best friend
To cherish and protect to the very end

Got me a dog, got me a pal
Got me a dog, throw a bone, throw a ball
She's always ready to play or always ready to listen
Now I know -- what I've been missin'
